3: Steve DeBus
Steve DeBus was one of the top goalies to ever play for the University of Minnesota men’s hockey team. Following his impressive collegiate career, the Rochester, Minnesota native went on to play professionally for parts of six seasons.
Debus was also part of one of the most unusual and memorable plays in college hockey history. He was the goalie who gave up a lacrosse style goal to Michigan’s Mike Legg in the 1996 NCAA Tournament. The videotape replay of the goal quickly became an Internet sensation and has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.
Steve discusses his hockey career, what he remembers about that historic goal, what happened when he saw Legg’s stick on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and what he’s up to today.
